What is Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM)?
Acupuncture forms only one aspect of TCM, which can include
the following:
Moxibustion: A form of gentle and relaxing heat treatment—very
effective for certain pains and aches.
Dietary Advice: Which is specialised in TCM terms.
Herbal Medicine: This is a very extensive part of TCM and
includes the dispensing of various Chinese herbal prescriptions.
Life Style Advice: This forms a crucial part of TCM in terms
of eliminatingfactors that contribute to the cause or chronicity
of health complaints.
Tui-Na: Chinese massage therapy.
TCM is also compatible with other systems of medicine, such
as Western Medicine.
What TCM treats?
Since TCM promotes the body’s natural healing ability,
many conditions can be treated. It is also a comprehensive
system of preventative health care and maintenance. The effectiveness
of Acupuncture and TCM is well documented. Throughout its
past history, and in present ongoing practice, TCM has established
a solid reputation as a system of medical health care that
works.
Since January 2001, Ireland’s two main health insurers,
BUPA and V.H.I. Have included Acupuncture in their health
plans.

The Treatment.
The patient’s problem is diagnosed on the basis of their
detailed history and examination during the initial consultation,
which lasts approximately one hour.
Subsequent consultations and treatments last approximately
45 minutes.
The diagnosis included examination of the tongue and pulse
as part of the process of determining the pattern of illness.
The patient will then begin a plan of treatment that will
include an estimate of how many treatments are required and
how frequent the visits should be.
Medical treatment can continue while receiving acupuncture.
The treatment is without side effects.
Both BUPA and V.H.I. Approved.
