Classic aromatherapy involves a gentle and flowing holistic
massage using pure essential oils blended to suit an individuals
needs. Among the many benefits of this treatment are the lowering
of stress levels and the improvement of digestion, breathing,
circulation and posture.
Where did it come from?
Aromatic oils have been prized for their therapeutic purposes,
as well as their wonderful aroma, for thousands of years with
the Greeks, Romans, and ancient Egyptians all familiar with
the benefits. Records show that as far back as 5000 years
ago plant oils were in use for their therapeutic purposes.
The modern era of aromatherapy dawned in 1928 when the French
chemist Gattefossé coined the term ‘aromatherapie’
for the therapeutic use of essential oils. Having seriously
burned his arm in his laboratory, Gattefossé plunged
the limb into a vat full of lavender and was stupefied to
see that no lesion appeared. This incident fueled his interest
in the therapeutic properties of aromatherapy oils enabling
him to later become known as the father of modern aromatherapy
and one of the early pioneers of scientific research into
essential oils.
Aromatherapy oils can be very volatile substances that require
care and knowledge when using them. It is unfortunate that
they are often sold with no guidance as to their proper use.
Essential oils have very real physiological effects and have
received bad press in the past through people inadvertently
using them incorrectly.
What happens during an aromatherapy session?
The first visit to an aromatherapist will involve a thorough
history being taken, this will aid the therapist in finding
oils to suit you.
Aromatherapy in the home.
Aromatherapy oils are highly concentrated and potent and
can be very volatile substances that require care and knowledge
when using and storing them. Unfortunately they are often
sold with no guidance as to their proper use.
Essential oils have very real physiological effects and have
received bad press in the past through people inadvertently
using them incorrectly. To overcome this we at the Natural
Healing Rooms set about finding a range that would be easy
for people with no prior knowledge of aromatherapy to use.
With the French being the innovators and leaders in aromatherapy
it is understandable that we turned to them when it came to
choosing an aromatherapy diffusion product line.
